Employee Happiness and Retention at DevIQ

In an era when talent moves fast, stability and deep institutional knowledge have become rare – and thus extraordinarily valuable. At DevIQ, we’re proud to highlight two simple, yet powerful numbers: the average employee tenure in our industry clocks in at roughly 2.5 years (and often lower in tech & consulting sectors). By contrast, our average tenure at DevIQ has stretched to 5.1 years. And – for the past 12 months – we haven’t had a single team member choose to leave.

Why does this matter? Because for our clients, it means what it always should: continuity, trust, expertise, momentum – and fewer hidden costs.

We recently invited DevIQ employees to submit videos to answer the question, “Why I like working at DevIQ?” Sit back and enjoy a fun collage of answers:

The projects are exciting.  The teams are amazing.  And the work truly makes an impact.  If I had to pick the one thing that stands out the most, it is the leadership, which isn't about titles..it's about trust, empowerment, and lifting people.

The Industry Context

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median tenure for all wage and salary workers is 3.3 years, down from 4.1 years in 2022.

In the technology and consulting world, the picture is even more challenging: many reports estimate average tenure in tech at ~2-3 years, with some high-profile firms recording median tenures of 1-2 years.

In consulting more broadly, one survey found that 36% of consultants were expecting to change companies within the next 12 months.

In short: what DevIQ has achieved is not simply “good for us,” it’s rare across our space. It signals real perseverance, engagement, and a commitment to staying the course.

Post employee -3.1

There is always an opportuity to learn and grow at this company and to be at the forefrost of technology, which is where I like to be.
What do DevIQ’s tenure statistics reflect?
  • Deep subject-matter continuity. When our people stay, they accumulate nuanced understanding of client systems, architectures, business processes, and domain knowledge. That means fewer “ramp-up” losses on new projects–but deeper, more strategic outcomes for clients.
  • Strong relationships. Whether it’s our internal teams or our external clients, long-tenured staff build trust. We don’t chase chaos; we build legacy. That trust translates into smoother handoffs, fewer misunderstandings, and a higher-performing client experience.
  • Cultural validation. As co-owner of the company, it is profoundly gratifying to see that DevIQ is a place where people want to stay. A retention milestone like “zero departures in the past year” isn’t a happy coincidence–it’s proof of alignment: The team values our purpose (Improving Life), our approach (The DevIQ Way), and our shared values of Appreciating People, Owning the Problem, Embracing Growth, Teamwork, and Creating Value.
  • Cost savings and value preservation. Hiring, onboarding, mastering a new domain–these are all non-trivial costs. Research in tech suggests that turnover can cost from ½ to 2 times an employee’s salary when you factor recruiting, training, lost productivity, and knowledge loss.[DailyPay] By contrast, our low turnover helps minimize that hidden friction and keeps energy focused on client outcomes.

Why This Matters for Clients

When you partner with DevIQ, you’re not just getting a vendor – you’re getting a stable, high-performing team whose depth and continuity matter:

  • Reduced risk. Fewer personnel changes mean less knowledge loss, fewer surprises, and smoother execution on long-term initiatives.
  • Faster time to value. Because our team knows your systems, your industry, and our way of working, we waste less time “getting up to speed” and deliver more quickly.
  • Better alignment. When senior team members stick around, they finally master the “why” behind your architecture – not just the “what.” That means smarter modernization, better decisions, and more strategic impact.
  • A partner that invests. Our average tenure is also a signal – DevIQ invests in our people, and our people invest in our clients. That kind of alignment pays dividends in quality, loyalty, and shared success.
My favorite thing is the people.  When you work with people with high IQs and driven leadership, it changes the game.  Success isn't just a possibility - it's an inevitabilty.

To Recap

At a time when many organizations treat turnover as inevitable, DevIQ stands out. An average tenure of 5.1 years in a sector where 2–3 years is more common is a meaningful distinction. Having zero departures in the past year is the kind of milestone that doesn’t happen by accident – it happens by design, through culture, leadership and intentional investment in people.

For me, it’s one of the greatest sources of pride. It tells me we’ve built a place where people can thrive – and that thriving team means stronger outcomes for our clients.

Here’s to many more years of growth, partnership and retention together.
