Anheuser-Busch Case Study: QLIK, a Global Market Trends & Analysis Tool

ABInBev (Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV) is the world’s largest drinks and brewing company, with some of its most renowned brands being Budweiser, Corona, Stella Artois, and Leffe. DevIQ was involved in the migration of ABInBev’s Global Market Trends & Analysis Tool into AWS.

Challenge

The primary objectives were migrating Qlik from GCP to AWS and maintaining global distribution & access for teams in US and China with low latency. Ultra high compute/memory/dedicated cloud resources were used. Qlik was not performant on GCP, embedded SSL certificates issues halted operations, and there were problems with global delivery and accessibility for their Chinese team.

Solution

Data streams were aggregated in GCP (large Hadoop clusters) from an enormous amount of sources ranging from pencil and paper to mobile apps; thousands of input channels. Data was then packaged, indexed, and made consumable for the Qlik application.

These processes remained in GCP due to their enormity & complexity. Data was then copied from GCP to AWS for Qlik to consume. Performance was increased, Qlik engineers were guided to deliver patches, and globally distributethe application/data to regions in China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore – trying to find the most performant and best solution for their Chinese team.

Technologies

Some of the technology expertise used in this project include:

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • AWS
  • GCP
  • Qlik

Result

Immediate results were noticeable when transitioning Qlik from GCP to AWS. The software and resources were stabilized, putting out a raging fire that was interfering with ABinBev’s ability to analyze their data and present visual information concerning brand insights to major stakeholders. The challenge was met and everything finally came to homeostasis. ABinBev now owns and operates a consistent and repeatable process that they know, trust, and can distribute anywhere in the world.
